In fact, in Israel, they appear in supermarkets and bakeries right after the Chanukah donuts sell out, which leaves us with more than two months to fight our temptations.<\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3312 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.leket.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Haman1-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" \/><\/p><p>Mass-manufactured Hamantashen are made with a great deal of margarine, sugar, preservatives, and an unlimited assortment of fillings.\u00a0 The ones found in bakeries are generally better in quality, though most places still use a considerable amount of butter or margarine in making the dough, and certainly don&#8217;t skimp on sugar. A single Hamantash contains 150 calories and the average person doesn\u2019t stop after the first one\u2026. So,\u00a0<em>you<\/em>\u00a0do the math!<\/p><p><strong>So, how can we still enjoy a Hamantash without feeling so guilty?<\/strong><\/p><p>Make them yourself!\u00a0 Baking at home gives us the power to decide how much fat and sugar we use. You can also add nutritional value by supplementing fiber and high-quality ingredients for the fillings.<\/p><p><strong>Please see the recipe below:<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Dough<\/strong>:<\/p><p>1 cup Whole Wheat Flour<\/p><p>1 teaspoon Baking Powder<\/p><p>\u00bd teaspoon Baking Soda<\/p><p>1 cup (100gr) &#8220;Instant&#8221; Oats<\/p><p>2 tablespoons Brown Sugar<\/p><p>2 tablespoons Date Honey<\/p><p>1 Egg<\/p><p>3 tablespoons Full Sesame Tahini<\/p><p>\u00bc cup Water (as needed)<\/p><p>Mix all the ingredients to create the dough and knead it well. Keep in the refrigerator until you have completed preparation of the filling.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9754 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.leket.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Haman2-300x228-min-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" \/><\/p><p><strong>Filling<\/strong>:<\/p><p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p><strong><u>Dry Fruit Filling:<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p><strong>1 cup mixed Figs, Dates and Raisins (or any other combination of fruits leftover from Tu-B\u2019Shvat)-cut and boil in water for 5 minutes.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Grated Orange Rind from One Orange<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>1 teaspoon Cinnamon<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>1 tablespoon Brown Sugar<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>\u00bd cup Chopped Walnuts<\/strong><\/p><p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p><strong><u>Poppy Seed Filling<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>\u00bd cup Ground Poppy Seeds<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>3 tablespoons Honey<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>3 tablespoons Date Honey<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong><u>Dark Chocolate Filling:<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p><strong>1 pack Dark Chocolate (70% cocoa)<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>(Place a cube of chocolate in the middle of the dough circle)<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<br \/><\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/p><ol><li>On a floured surface, roll out the dough until it is about 0.5 cm thick.<\/li><li>Shape the dough into circles using a cookie-cutter or an upside-down cup.<\/li><li>Place the filling in the middle of the circle, and pinch three corners into a triangle; be sure to press the corners hard.<\/li><li>Place the Hamantashen on a pan lined with parchment paper, leaving enough space between each one to allow them to expand.<\/li><li>Bake them in a preheated (165*C) oven for 20 minutes.<\/li><li>After baking, you may sprinkle the Hamantashen with cinnamon instead of the more commonly used powdered sugar.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ol><p>Then serve and enjoy!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Smadar Hod- Ovadia, Leket Israel&#8217;s in-house nutritionist, gives us some tips and recipes for the upcoming Holiday of Purim.
